Captain, Philippe G. Goldscheide

Captain Phil was born near Paris, France, and grew up in Guadeloupe, French West Indies. He hails from a family of mariners which drew him to the ocean at an early age. He was just six years old when he got his first boat, a two meter Sportyak which he sailed around the bay of Pointe-a-Pitre for hours every day. He was hooked! His love of the sea progressed into a career which now spans over 30 years as a professional captain. He has thorough knowledge of the Eastern seaboard of North America and the Gulf of Mexico. The island chain, from the Bahamas down to the Grenadines, is his backyard. He also navigated the waters of New England for eleven years. He has completed four Atlantic crossings and two Panama Canal transits and Pacific crossings. He holds a 500 ton USCG master’s license and a BSEE in Electrical Engineering. He speaks four languages including English, French, Spanish and Creole.

An accomplished diver who has logged over 7,000 deep dives, Philippe holds FFESSM and CMAS 3 star advanced open water instructor and cave rescue diver certifications. He has COMEX commercial diving class IV rating. An avid free diver and spear fisher, you will find him tucked under a reef, hunting for a fresh catch for dinner. Being a member of the Society of American Magicians, Philippe might also surprise you with his bag of tricks!

Newell attended the University of Central Florida where he studied investment finance. After graduating he decided to merge his love for the sea and his professional career. Immediately following college, he attended Maritime school and studied for his 200 ton Captains license as well as advanced marine engineering courses.

He started his professional career as a deckhand on a 50 meter yacht and worked his way up the ranks. Newell has been yachting for 6 years and truly loves what he does.
